The replacement of a Peugeot 206 key is a simple process that can be completed in just a few minutes. All you have to do is transfer the electronics, battery and immobilizer chip of your old key fob to the new one.
Peugeot keyfobs with 206 keys can have the button-cell battery fails. This video demonstrates how to replace the button cell battery.
The Immobilizer System
When you turn on and insert your Peugeot key, it sends an electronic code to the engine control system. The engine will not start when the code isn't correct. This stops theft of vehicles from unauthorized people. A professional locksmith for cars can assist you when your Peugeot immobilizer isn't working. They can use standard tools used by dealers to create a new key or replace the old one. This will save you time and money. You won't have to wait for a long time in the showroom because they will come to you.
However the fact is that not all antitheft devices are made equal. The Thatcham Research organisation tests and gradings anti-theft technology to ensure it is in compliance with high safety standards. They test the system's functionality by studying the messages sent between the immobilizer's components as well as the CAN bus traffic.
However, even G28 can be cracked in the right way if they are targeted. In one study, Jan Bokslag used weaknesses in the Hitag2 protocol to stealthily hack three cars including all models from the past. It took just 10 seconds to extract the security code of a vehicle from one of the vehicles. The information is then used to create a functioning key that disables the immobilizer. The other two keys were difficult to crack, but eventually, they were.
The Immobilizer Chip
A key that is chipped is also referred to as a Smart Key, has a RFID microchip which transmits a passcode from the keys to the immobilizer system of the vehicle. If the chip's code is similar to the system of the car, then the car will begin to move.
This is an important anti-theft measure that prevents car thieves from hotwiring the immobilizer or bypassing it in any other method. If the immobilizer fails to recognize the key the engine won't be turned on if anyone attempts to short-circuit ignition circuit.
Modern cars are equipped with electronic Engine Immobilizer systems that use rolling/changing security codes. This means that every time a key is used, the smart system alters the second code and pushes it into the chip within the key. The first code remains permanent when the key is put in the ignition, the immobilizer process the two codes to determine if the two codes match.
This is a very sophisticated technology that's difficult to hack. This is why most stolen vehicles aren't able to be started. If your Peugeot starts and then shuts down again then it's not the immobilizer. It could be a myriad of electrical issues causing the car to not work. Our auto locksmiths can help solve these issues. They can also reprogram chipped or smart Peugeot Key to ensure it works again.
The Battery
Peugeot keys to cars have transponder chips which when coupled with the vehicle, deactivates the vehicles standard immobiliser system inside the ECU (engine control unit). This allows the vehicle to be started and it also allows the key fob to open the doors and boot. The chip is hidden in the head of a remote or manual key.
Peugeot was faced with a lot of competition when the 206 first came out in 1999, mainly from superminis like the Ford Fiesta or Volkswagen Polo. Peugeot's unique strategy for the 206 was that it would not directly replace the 205 but it was designed to sit between the smaller Peugeot 106 and the larger range of 306. This was so that the lower models of the 306 and 106 could take sales away from the higher top 205s.
The 206 line includes a hatchback, a 2-door coupe cabriolet, and an a-station wagon referred to as the 206 C and 206 SW, respectively. The 207 GTi was a WRC homologated version of the 206, which could go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds, and could reach speeds of up to 210 km/h.

The Key Fob
Peugeot is a French automobile manufacturer founded in 1810. Peugeot is owned by PSA Peugeot Citroen. Peugeot cars are often regarded to be among the top in their class. It is possible to replace your Peugeot key fob if it's worn out or broken. All you need to do is transfer the battery, electronics and immobilizer chip from the old key to the new fob.
To make sure the new key is functioning correctly, test it inside your vehicle. Make sure all doors are closed and then turn off the ignition and then press the lock button on the fob three times. If the LED stops blinking, it's working. If it doesn't work it could be because you forgot to transfer your transponder chip.
